Ntsikitsana Diamond Mine
The Company is committed to operating in a sustainable manner and with the utmost integrity to enhance the positive economic, environmental and social impacts of its business while maximizing the resources at our mines. Our commitment is guided by the principles of social responsibility, environmental stewardship and economic sustainability.
Ntsikitsana Diamond Mine
Our strategy is to invest our resources at our mines – capital in order to extend our mine lives, and people in order to apply the expertise of our team. We structure and plan our operations to ensure that all stakeholders receive maximum benefit from our presence. This approach aims to ensure long-term sustainable operations. Ntsikitsana’s five core sustainability objectives are in alignment with Our Values and with our Group strategy to ‘Work Responsibly’:
- Ensure that everyone works safely, in a ‘zero harm’ environment;
- Ensure that we work in harmony with our natural environment and manage resources appropriately;
- Ensure that we have sustainable relationships with all of the communities in which we operate;
- Ensure that we comply with relevant legislation in order to maintain our license to operate
- Structure and implement all projects and practices with the long-term success of the Company in mind, to the benefit of all stakeholders.
At Ntsikitsana Diamond Mine we believe people are our most important asset. That is why we are fully committed to the health, safety and well-being of our employees and to establishing strong, lasting and respectful relationships with the people and communities with whom we work. This includes working collaboratively with local community leaders, stakeholder groups and governments by sharing information and engaging to better understand their needs and expectations. To meet our commitment to help protect our fragile northern environment, we maintain a high standard of environmental stewardship throughout all phases of our operations.
Ntsikitsana is fully committed to ensuring that we continue to be an important cornerstone of the local economy. To this end, we will report regularly on our progress in fulfilling our obligations to stakeholders. As part of our overall commitment to excellence, we will set measurable goals, improve performance against those goals over time and report that performance in a transparent and timely manner.
Responsible Trade in Diamonds
Ntsikitsana is committed to ensuring that all aspects of its business – including diamond mining and the sale of rough diamonds – reflect the highest standards of conduct.
Ntsikitsana Diamond Mine subscribes to an international system of certification and warranties known as Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) and The System of Warranties. The KPCS is a joint initiative between government, the diamond industry, and Non Governmental Organizations that imposes extensive requirements on its member countries to enable them to certify the origin of their rough diamonds and prevent illicit or “conflict” diamonds from entering legitimate trade. The System of Warranties is an extension of the Kimberley Process where members of the diamond trade provide a written guarantee on all invoices that the diamonds are conflict free. All warranties whether given or received must be audited and reconciled on an annual basis. The System of Warranties provides assurance that diamonds are from conflict free sources all the way to the diamond jewelry retailer.
